How the Coleorton Brook at Ashby Park was improved

In a partnership project between Trent Rivers Trust (TRT), Natural England and the National Forest Company TRT have been undertaking river enhancement works on the Coleorton Brook which flows through Ashby Business Park Ashby de la Zouch.

This neglected hidden watercourse, fenced off, overgrown and blighted with litter was unknown to the majority of people walking by only a few meters away.

By engaging with the local businesses through employee work days TRT has installed pride and ownership of the site. TRT worked with volunteers from Alstom, Ceva logistics and Siemens to complete the transformation. Feedback from many of the volunteers and local employees was very positive.

“A hard day’s work but very rewarding. We certainly made a visible difference! I hope this cleaner environment encourages more wild life into the area.”

“I hope our hard work is respected and the local business residents and overnight parkers strive to keep the areas clean and tidy”

TRT also worked with volunteers from The Conservation Volunteers, Burton Conservation Volunteers. These works have created a pleasant place for local people to visit and walk, as well as providing improved habitats for a range of wildlife. The project was completed with the instalation of interpretation panels and benches.
